Easiest way to find out is to go to amazon.com and read people’s reviews on the book. I’d tend to stick to reviews that have 20 or more ratings.

Best one I’ve ever seen as it is both comprehensive, easy to understand, gives great examples and takes a lot of the mystery out of learning the subject.
I used it when I taught photography and most of my students have told me they learned so much they will never forget as a result of this book.
Photography (7th Edition) by Barbara London, John Upton, Ken Kobre, and Betsy Brill (Paperback – Jul 6, 2001)
p.s. Get the used copy as you don’t want to spend $99 for a new one, when you can get just as good for $17 in paperback.
